Chengdu Industry
As a leading capital of Sichuan, Chengdu has always led the province in economic development. Long before it has been groomed as a capital, Chengdu has brought the Bronze Age. The establishment of Dujiangyan irrigation in 256 BC proved the suitability of Chengdu to be a capital. Its abundance in natural resources also brought its people to prosperity. Since then, this city has always been seen as a place to pursue success – people flocked to live here – and eventually made this a very populous place. It is noted for the some milestones in history, such as the first paper money, the origination of the Southern Silk Road, and rule of the Guomindang government during World War II. Traditional Chinese Medicine is also a long established industry where Chengdu is also known for.
Now, Chengdu is largely a progressive place that reflects the modern urban setting complete with highways, business districts, industries and other structures typical of a very developed city. It is known as a hub in electronics and IT industries, and is currently on the way to becoming a center for major international financial institutions. The formation of the Guomindang regime also maintained its strong military center - the headquarters of Chengdu Military Region.
